Justin Volpe is a former New York City Police Department (NYPD) officer who gained notoriety for his involvement in the brutal assault of Abner Louima, a Haitian immigrant, in 1997. Volpe, along with other police officers, beat and sexually assaulted Louima with a plunger in a Brooklyn police station bathroom. Volpe was ultimately convicted of multiple charges, including violating Louima's civil rights and obstruction of justice, and was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison. The incident led to widespread protests and calls for police reform in New York City.
